The Debt: The Coffee Conundrum

Monday, Monday. How was everybody’s weekend? Mine was productive. I did most of what I set out to do, except get a library card. When I started purging my closet things quickly escalated into a full on purge of every room and that took up the entire weekend, but everything is so organized and clean now!

I have a confession to make; I am hopelessly addicted to Tim Hortons. I buy at least 1 coffee a day; most days I buy 2. I stated in my original debt post that I was going to buy a coffee maker and stop buying coffee in the morning as a way to cut back on expenses.

This has not happened.

I know I am only 14 days into my new frugal life style but when I look at the allowance I gave myself I can see how much buying coffee is really effecting my cash flow. Since I haven’t been so great with my spending this pay I will have to wait until my next pay (Friday) to buy a coffee maker and kick my Tim Hortons habit.

The real eye opener for me was when I sat down and did the math.
1 large coffee @ $1.80 every day of the year =$657.00.
Given that I buy 2 most days means I spend $1314.oo!!!!

Yikes!

Laying it out like that certainly puts things in perspective. So on Friday I will head out and find myself a cheap coffee maker, buy a tin of Tim Hortons coffee and make the switch to home-brew.

I am not off again until next Monday (7 days straight…boo) and I will try to get a library card then. There is no real rush given the fact I still have 2 books at home I bought months and months ago that I haven’t read yet (I found them when I was purging my life home), but this way I will at least have it when I need it.

a library card is great – we use ours at least a few times a month. i do cave and buy books here and there, but overall i save us SO much $ by not paying for every book

Tell me about it. I want one of those Billy Bookshelves eventually so I feel as though I HAVE to buy books to fill something that is not even built…reasoning like this is why I had to start watching my spending :P …..also thanks for letting my know about the header :)
